The Polestones 01 has a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, two electric motors and a 56 kWh battery.
Polestones Automobiles, a Chinese automaker you've probably never heard of, recently introduced its first model in the 01 form. This is an intriguing, off-road oriented SUV designed by Pininfarina and powered by a range-extending engine. It looks pretty good as a first try of a production model.
The Polestones 01 measures 5,050 mm (198.8 inches) for six-seaters or 5,295 mm (208.4 inches) for 7-seaters, 1,980 mm (77.9 inches) wide and 1,869 mm (73.5 inches) long and 3,010 mm (73.5 inches) for 7-seaters. 118.5 inches) wheelbase. That's why the length and wheelbase of the Polestones 01 are almost identical to the Land Rover Defender 130, which seems to be visually inspired. The 01 premiered earlier this month as the Jishi 01 but is now expected to be sold as BAIC's new brand Polestones.
Seen from the side, the 01 immediately reminds us of the Defender 130, but its rear overhang is not that long. Meanwhile, the front of the 01 looks suspiciously similar to the recently unveiled 2024 Lexus GX, with similarly shaped headlights and a large darkened grille. The rear of the Polestones' design is characterized by LED taillights and a spare tire carrier.
The cabin has many striking features. For example, a small kitchen area has been included in the tailgate, and it has a water dispenser, induction hob and plenty of space to store plates, bowls and utensils. The front features a large digital instrument cluster, Tesla-inspired horizontal infotainment display, and two wireless charging pads, again configured very similarly to the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y. We can also see a two-spoke steering wheel.
It looks like the second row will be sold exclusively with two captain seats, both with separate armrests and recline functions. In addition, a large screen can be folded down from the roof, and second row passengers can also enjoy the large panoramic glass roof. Both the first and second row seats also have heating and massage functions.
In terms of security features, the 01 comes standard with six cameras, five millimeter wave radar and 12 ultrasonic sensors, while customers looking for a more advanced autonomous driving system can add three LiDARs, 12 cameras, five millimeter wave radars and 12 ultrasonic sensors.
Powering the Polestones 01 is a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that acts as a range extender, driving a pair of electric motors with 469 hp (350 kW) and 546 lb-ft (740 Nm). The SUV can accelerate to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.5 seconds and has a 56 kWh battery pack that provides 146 miles (235 km) of all-electric range on the WLTP test cycle. With the range extender running, the 01 can travel up to 693 miles (1,115 km) between stops.
