William Lamshaw was an 18th century innkeeper from Morpeth, Northumberland. He was piper to the Duke of Northumberland and apparently he taught John Peacock, the famous Northumbrian piper and tune collector from Newcastle. Possibly, William was the father of Young William Lamshaw, a famous piper of Peacock's times.
This appears to be one of the first tunes composed for the keyed Northumbrian chanter.
