(18 Jan 2015) A rally was held in Paris on Sunday to condemn the stigmatisation of Muslims and Islam, following the deadly attacks in France.
Separately, in the Parisian suburb of Sevran, Muslims and others gathered to condemn terror attacks and express their support to tackle such acts.
The gathering was organised by The National Federation of Muslims of France, which also criticised the publication of Muhammad cartoons by the French weekly Charlie Hebdo.
The organisation's president, Mohamed Bechari, expressed his concern about "a feeling of increased Islamophobia" and criticised politicians for not doing more.
Meanwhile, French authorities banned an anti-Islamist demonstration in Paris planned on Sunday, ruling that it might disrupt public order.
Organisers of the banned rally instead held a news conference in a location that was kept secret until a few hours before it began.
Christine Tasin, a member of right-wing Riposte Laique, said in that news conference that she doesn't want to have "terrorists and jihadists as our neighbours".
