An NYPD officer was shot three times when police exchanged gunfire with a man who opened fire on them late Wednesday night in the Bedford-Stuyvesant area of Brooklyn, according to Commissioner Dermot Shea.
The shootout sparked when police stopped to question a man spotted nearby a deadly shootout that occurred just minutes earlier in the Bushwick area, the NYPD said.
The wounded officer was hospitalized and is expected to make a full recover, officials said.
The suspect was also struck once in the leg in the shootout and is also expected to recover, authorities said.
