Do you know what your tire is trying to tell you? Stay tuned and we'll go over your tire markings.
Before a tire can be sold it is stamped with a DOT marking. This indicates that the tire meets the U.S. Department of Transportation standards. Now that we know your tires are up to standard we'll go over the other markings on your tires.
When you look at your tire it can be read from left to right. The first marking you will come across will be a letter. If it shows a (P) it is marked for a passenger vehicle up to a light truck. If it is marked with an (LT) it is for a light truck up to full ton trucks.
It is then followed by the Section Width Tread (325), this is the width of the tire from one sidewall to the other.
Following that is the Aspect Ratio which is the height of the sidewall. In this case it's 65. If the following letter is an ( R ) that states the Radial Construction. The radial construction is the design of the tire; most cars will have this stamp. The Radial Construction stamp is followed by a two digit number. This number will be the size of you rims. The tire states 18 so the wheel size is 18” in diameter. The next three digits will be the load index. The load index tells us the weight capacity each tire can hold before it can cause damage. The last item to look for is a letter which will state the tire speed rating. This tire has a letter R, if we look at the chart for speed rating it tells us that anything with the letter R is not recommended to exceed a speed of 106mph.
