I've always tapped by hand - by always, I mean the few times I've tapped anything (made some screw thread).. I wanted to try using my drill and made a small videoclip doing so.
Before starting I had drilled 2,5mm diameter holes.
It went very well! What you see is me setting my drill torque low, so it doesn't just continue if I can't feel the resistance (or am slow to respond).
The first time I put a tapping bit through is one with almost no thread on it, to sort of pave the way for the finished tapping bit.
These parts are parts for my BeTrue3D Printer project and the small m3 holes are for small grup/set-screws to hold in place 8mm steel rods for the Y axis.
