The global crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic is unprecedented in nature. Emerging as a health crisis, the pandemic has become a threat to global prosperity and stability. The emerging secondary threats of COVID-19 include food insecurity, the loss of livelihoods, the severe strain on crumbling health systems and deepening in-equalities for women and girls.
Datasets to provide information on the secondary impacts of COVID-19 have been developed and it is crucial that journalists understand and use this data in their stories and offer a check and balance to the work of governments, businesses and institutions responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.
