STORYLINE
Indonesian Muslims gathered in Jakarta on Saturday to celebrate Eid al-Fitr, the festival marking the end of Ramadan.
Hundreds of people arrived early to the Al Azhar mosque in the capital to pray.
One worshipper described getting through the deprivations of Ramadan as a "victory."
"We feel that this a victory for us, because we managed to control our material desires during fasting season. It is our victory and we celebrate it today," said Aswad Dipo..
Eid al-Fitr is the celebration that comes at the end of Ramadan. Ramadan is a month of fasting, every day, from dawn until sunset.
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Muslim year, and is followed by Shawal. The first three days of Shawal are the Eid days.
The festival is determined by clerics based on the sighting of the new moon.
