US President-elect Donald Trump has announced oil industry executive Chris Wright as his pick to lead the Department of Energy.
Shadow Energy Minister Ted O’Brien has reacted to the decision, saying a Trump administration will not change the Coalition’s policy settings.
“From the Coalition’s perspective, we have proven to be able to work with either side of the political side of the United States,” he told Sky News Australia.
“There’s no doubt that the world right now, including here in Australia, are looking at the election that has just taken place and asking questions.
“From the Coalition’s perspective, our soul focus when it comes to climate change and energy policy has been what’s in our national interest and, given that, we ourselves don’t see our policy settings change as we move into this next election.”
