In a displacement reaction, a more reactive metal displaces a less reactive metal from its compound. Zinc is more reactive than copper so will displace copper from its compound, forming zinc sulfate and copper. Copper sulfate solution changes from blue to a colourless zinc sulfate solution, where there is a copper coating on the surface of the zinc.
