Porsche and the surfing lifestyle form a perfect partnership, evidenced by the unique 928 Surfari project, realized by a passionate Polish surfing community. This story began years ago, rooted in the bond between a father and son. Their hard work built a community around their campsite and watersports business on the Hel peninsula of Poland’s Baltic coast, and also allowed them to indulge in their passion for cars. With a father who introduced him to the world of Porsche, Tadeusz Elwart, manager of the Chałupy 6 campsite and originator of the Hel Riders festival, naturally embraced this enthusiasm.

Growing up with a love for Porsche intertwined with a seaside life, Elwart's ambitions evolved. With a dream Porsche already in the garage, the concept of the 928 Surfari emerged during the growth of the Hel Riders festival. The goal was to create a Porsche capable of handling off-road terrain while serving as the perfect beach vehicle and surf taxi.

The classic Porsche V8 engine provided a strong foundation, but challenges arose in modifying the gearbox, differential, and suspension. Engineer and rally driver Tomasz Staniszewski, fresh from completing the Classic Dakar Rally in his self-built Porsche 924, found solutions to make the 928 Surfari a reality.

Styled by local talents Lange & Lange, the 928 Surfari debuted at the Hel Riders festival, followed by a road trip to Sylt, Germany, for the Petro-Surf air-cooled Porsche festival, and then to the island of Rømø, Denmark. The journey allowed the 928 Surfari to connect with its natural environment, embodying the spirit of surfing.
