Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga for the PS2 is a game that I've meaning to play since I beat Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne a few years ago. Once again, the Shin Megami Tensei moniker was just a western localization choice. The true title of the games is Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner. I can say wholeheartedly that the DDSAT duology become some of my favorite Megami Tensei games. During the making of this video, I didn't even do any of the optional boss fights in either DDSAT1 or DDSAT2. DDS2 is slept on even by people who played DDS1. I enjoyed Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner 2 a little more than 1 overall, but there are still things about Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner 1 that I enjoy more than in 2. BOTH SMT: Digital Devil Saga 1 & SMT: Digital Devil Saga 2 received critical acclaim, but did not reach the sales numbers of other highly regarded Megaten games. This would lead Atlus to layoff several people due to losses. In this video, 18 years later, I explore how much love and care went into SMT: Digital Devil Saga and whether the amount of effort put into DDS was worth the little payoff. Are Avatar Tuner 1 and Avatar Tuner 2 Atlus's BEST failure?
