(9 Apr 2017) Turkish citizens living in Germany on Sunday cast their ballots in Turkey's referendum on whether to expand the
president's powers.
Dozens lined up at the Turkish consulate in Berlin to have their say ahead of the national vote next Sunday.
Tens of millions of Turkish citizens are expected to head to the polls across Turkey on April 16 but for those living abroad, Sunday was the last day when they were able to cast their ballot in the referendum.
Voting began on 1 April at airports and border gates in Turkey as well as in Turkish diplomatic missions in some European countries for expatriate Turks only.
Close to three million expatriate Turks are eligible to vote - nearly half of them in Germany.
The government-proposed changes would give executive powers to the presidency and abolish the post of prime minister.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who has long pushed for the changes, insists a stronger presidency would lead to greater prosperity.
Critics fear the changes will concentrate too much power in the hands of the president without the necessary checks and balances.
