The 2001 attack on the Indian Parliament was undoubtedly the most daring one and also the most alarming act of terrorism ever. It was on December 13, 2001 at around 11:40 am, the winter session of Parliament was going on when five terrorists equipped with grenades, guns and explosives, entered Parliament House Complex in a car and opened indiscriminate firing. The terrorists belonged to Pakistan-based terrorist groups Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e- Mohammed.
But the important question is who benefitted from the attack. And the answer to this is JeM’s ally, Osama bin Laden’s al-Qaeda. Perhaps, the attack can be called a payback for the cooperation between the two. Unfortunately, the perpetrators find safe haven in Pakistan with active support from Pakistan ISI and military, which needs to be acknowledged by the international community and slap maximum punishment.
Today even after 19 years of the heinous attack, India demands that the international community considers the complexity of the menace and calls for a unified action against terrorism sponsored by Pakistan.
