What's the secret of new parking seats in travel planes?
Italian aircraft maker Aviointeriors has designed a plane seat that says it will make flights much cheaper. But the seat comes with a strange advantage, as the passengers basically have to stand throughout the flight!
This concept, called Skyrider 2.0, was presented at the annual Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg in April 2018. An updated design for the seat called Skyrider 3.0 has recently been presented at this year's conference.
While the original design features yellow seats separated by silver columns, the newest model comes with black seats with yellow paint.
Designed by Gaetano Perugini at Aviointeriors, the Skyrider 3.0 seats will allow "basic economic, economic and business class" sections to be housed in a single cabin.
New seating seats in travel aircraft
According to Aviointeriors, Skyrider 2.0's upright passenger position will allow airlines to make better use of space in the aircraft, increase the number of passengers, and seats designed to keep passengers comfortable enough.
According to the manufacturer, the integrated design of the 2.0 version of the seat will enable airlines to accommodate 20% of additional passengers on board aircraft. The seats are lightweight and weigh less than 50% of the standard economy seats. This means airlines may reduce fuel and maintenance costs and offer flights at much cheaper prices.
