Snake Plant (also known as "Mother-In-Law's Tongue") is a popular house plant native to Asia, usually grown for its upright habit. It has a long history of use in traditional Chinese medicine and was once considered a valuable medical resource.
Snake Plant likes to be potbound , so the best soil type for it is just plain bonsai mix with no additives. Any simple Japanese or American loose bonsai soil will do fine. Many people recommend using #2 pine bark because it holds water very well but I have always used lava sand or pumice instead, which also work well if you keep the soil on the dry side .
The most important thing about choosing what kind of pot to put your Snake Plant in is to choose a pot with drainage holes , because this plant cannot tolerate being sitting in water. The second most important thing is choosing the right size of pot.
The best way to water Snake Plant is with room temperature bottled spring water, letting it drain fully between each time you water . If your tap water has fluoride in it then just use room temperature bottled spring water for all watering needs. Watering every day or every other day should be sufficient . You can mist it now and then but don't do it too often because wet leaves are very susceptible to fungal diseases.
