(coeliac trunk, truncus coeliacus)

The first major anterior branch of abdominal aorta,the others being superior and inferior mesenteric arteries.

It branches from aorta at T12 and give off the following branches:
- left gastric artery
- common hepatic artery
- splenic artery
(It may also give rise to inferior phrenic arteries.)

It supplies oxygenated blood to liver, stomach, abdominal esophagus, spleen and the superior half of both duodenum and pancreas.
