Measures are being put in place to prevent the spread of bird flu into Iraq from neighbouring Turkey, Iraqi health officials said.
Importing live birds from Turkey will be suspended as will selling live birds in markets.
Also, frozen birds will have to be medically tested before being transported from one city to another, according to the agriculture ministry in northern Iraq's Kurdish enclave.
At Zakho, a checkpoint on the Turkey-Iraq border, veterinary quarantine official Dr. Waleed Hameed Ahemd said they are implementing "protective procedures" at the borders to prevent avian flu spread.
"We prevent all kinds of imported birds and poultry and all types of imported eggs (from crossing the border.)" said Dr Ahemd.
In the village of Bastaki near Turkish border, villager Fathi Ahmed Haji says they are afraid of the arrival of bird flu.
There has been no reported cases of bird flu in Iraq.
The World health Organisation said a network of "focal points" had been set up across Iraq, with doctors responsible for surveillance and investigating any possible outbreak.
Turkish authorities stepped up the slaughter of chickens, geese and turkeys this week. 18 people have been infected with the deadly H5N1 strain of the virus. Three of them have died.
