"Controlling weapons incoming to Lebanon is a Lebanese request but at the same time it should not affect the life of the civilian population. STORYLINE:
Members of the Lebanese parliament on Saturday prepared for a sit-in at the parliament building in protest against the Israeli blockade of Lebanon.
The sit-in was called by the Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri during a tour of the port city of Tyre on Thursday.
The Members of parliament gathered outside and inside the Parliamentarian building and mattresses could be seen being unloaded.
The sit-in comes a day after Syrian President Bashar Assad's promised UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan to increase border patrols and work with Lebanese troops to thwart the flow of arms to its ally Hezbollah.
One Beirut resident did not express any optimism about the promise.
"Syria does only what is in her interest. We experienced that with the Chebaa farms and in the demarcation of the border so I do not think it will comply with the 1701 resolution," said Ahmad Al-Jamal.
Preventing weapons from reaching Hezbollah is a key element of the UN resolution that halted the Israeli-Hezbollah fighting on August 14.
