A recent heatwave, covering Eastern Europe (with temperatures of 33-36 degrees C) reminded us how important green areas are for cities with their cooling effect. However, we still often disparage trees due to lack of knowledge.
In a modern world, technological tools provide unique possibilities of better trees (and other green areas) management. And everything here starts with digitalization of green zones in cities.
During our webinar with Dr. Nadina Galle, we’ve discussed:
- Why is it important to digitize the Green in cities and how does this help to save trees?
- What had Amsterdam, Melbourne, Maastricht and other advanced cities already done and what could we learn from them?
- How do trees contribute to a circular city model?
- What could we start from in Kyiv and other cities of the Eastern Europe?
Dr. Nadina Galle is a researcher, founder of the Circular City study programme at UvA and the Internet of Nature podcast as well as co-founder of the Green City Watch company.
As an ecological engineer, driven by a love for ecology and a fascination with technology, she researches, designs, and pilots emerging technologies to build better urban ecosystems for people and nature. A framework Nadina calls the “Internet of Nature”. Her work has been recognized by BBC Earth, National Geographic, Forbes, The Next Web, Newsweek, ELLE, and the European Space Agency.
