India Confirms Two Cases Of HMPV Infection In Karnataka Amid Outbreak In China
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on January 6 confirmed that two cases of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) cases have been detected in the southern Karnataka state. These cases were identified through the ICMR's routine surveillance for various respiratory viruses amid ongoing efforts to monitor respiratory illnesses nationwide, the Union health ministry said. Both the infected individuals are reported to be infants, a three-month-old female infant, and an eight-month-old male baby. It is important to note that neither patient has any history of international travel, the Indian Ministry of Health underlined.
