Installing Day & Night blinds (also called zebra blinds or dual roller blinds) is a straightforward process if you follow these steps. Here's a general guide:
Tools You’ll Need:
Electric drill with the appropriate drill bits
Screws (usually provided with the blinds)
Screwdriver
Pencil
Measuring tape
Spirit level (to ensure blinds are straight)
Step ladder (if needed)
Wall plugs (if attaching to concrete or brick)
Steps to Install Day & Night Blinds:
1. Measure the Window
Width: Measure the exact width of the window from inside edge to inside edge (for inside mount) or add a few extra inches on each side (for outside mount).
Height: Measure the length from the top of the window frame to the desired length (usually the bottom of the window or a little further down for an outside mount).
2. Mark the Bracket Positions
For an inside mount: Hold the brackets inside the window frame at the top corners.
For an outside mount: Hold the brackets above the window frame at an equal distance from the edges.
Use a pencil to mark the holes where the screws will go.
3. Drill Pilot Holes
Using the drill, make small pilot holes where you’ve marked. This helps to guide the screws and prevents splitting.
For drywall or concrete, you may need to insert wall plugs.
4. Attach the Brackets
Screw the brackets securely in place using the screws provided. Ensure the brackets are level by using the spirit level. If they’re uneven, the blinds won’t hang correctly.
5. Install the Blind
Once the brackets are securely in place, fit the blinds into the brackets. Most blinds will "click" into place when pushed into the brackets.
Some blinds may require an additional locking mechanism (usually a small lever or screw).
6. Test the Blinds
Pull the cord or chain to test the function of the blinds. Ensure they roll up and down smoothly and that the Day & Night feature works, alternating between the light-filtering and opaque sections.
7. Attach the Safety Chain Bracket (Optional)
If your blinds come with a chain, you may have a safety bracket to secure the chain to the wall, preventing tangling or child safety hazards. Screw this in place near the bottom of the window frame.
Additional Tips:
Outside Mount Considerations: Add extra width to the blinds to provide better light coverage.
Inside Mount Considerations: Ensure the depth of the window recess can accommodate the blind without it sticking out.
Double-check the manufacturer’s instructions, as different brands may have specific installation processes.
