Hello everybody and welcome to all people visiting Go to Naples, your guide to the bay of Naples.
Last Sunday my wife and me were to the medieval village of Casertavecchia, on the slopes of the mountain Tiffani, 400 meters on the level of the sea.
From the railway you have to take the exit of Caserta Nord, and then follow the road signs to Casertavecchia - or Caserta Antica. You will arrive in a point where cars can't go on, and you can park there. We found a parking where the amount to pay for a daily parking was 1 euro and half. I can show you the sign, so you will recognize it.
You can park and go along an uphill road entering into the medieval city, where you can visit the cathedral, where actually they celebrate the mess, the churche .
A village was initially founded before the ninth century, and a became a very important center, until 1842, when, the Royal family of Bourbon decided to build a Royal palace in the valley. So also the seat of the diocese was moved to the valley. We are talking about the Royal Palace of Caserta, you can see from the hill of Casertavecchia, one of the most beautiful in Italy, visited from about six hunded thousand tourists.
So the ancient village left his importance and inhabitants began settling in the valley and village of Casertavecchia fell into disrepair.
During your visit to Casertavecchia you can see the cathedral (the original structure goes back to the 12th century), the church of the Annunziata, where you can actually see the traditional dresses of the arcibrotherhood of the "santitssimo sacramento e Monte dei Morti" and a statue of Saint Michael for procession. You can also see a well-preserved tower and some walls from the castle, built in 861.
A day in Casertavecchia must include a lunch or a dinner in one of the little restaurants you can find there. We chose the restaurant "da Teresa", and we enjoyed a good meal.
When we walked along lanes in Casertavecchia we found a signboard, with the notice: "I sell all the building". Somebody is selling a two stairs ancient building in Casertavecchia. If you want to buy it, and you want to feel the lord of Casertavecchia, ask to the man who is selling the building. You can see it in the picture.
Moreover, if you want to make a business in this area call me, I could have some interesting ideas to work together.
Good bye and remember: Go to Naples!
