The Singapore Armed Forces is carrying out a two-week drill with countries under the Five Power Defence Arrangements (FPDA). 2,600 military personnel from Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand and the UK are involved. The exercise will run until Oct 18. Traditionally called Exercise Bersama Lima, it has been specially named Exercise Bersama Gold 2021 this year to mark the FPDA's 50th anniversary. The Defence Ministry said the tri-service exercise is the first FPDA physical field exercise since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, and safety precautions were taken.
