According to NBC news, twenty-one states have cracked down on people who pass off their pets as service animals, and Minnesota is now among them. Senator Justin Eichorn, R-Grand Rapids, authored a bill which was signed into law that makes it a crime to misrepresent a pet as a service animal. The new law takes effect August 1, 2018.
