Celebrating Global Tiger Day (July 29, 2018), WWF-Indonesia and the Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry released a rare video series showing successful tigers proliferating in the wild.
As the main predator on the food chain, tigers in nature play an important role to maintain the balance of ecosystems that support the survival of other species and also for humans.
However, tigers are critical. Currently, there are only 3,900 individual wild tigers in the world, can only be found about 5% of their reach, when compared with a century ago.
"This video is amazing evidence and proves that tigers" breed like cats "if only they have protected habitats, have enough prey and are not hunted. To achieve the goal of TX2 increase the amount of 2-fold, meaning we need the help of the government, business, local communities and everyone who cares for tigers to support tiger conservation efforts, "said Michael Baltzer, Chairman of Tigers Alive Initiative. "We greatly appreciate the efforts of the Indonesian government to save this remarkable species and we will increase our support to recover the number of tigers in Sumatra."
Suhandri, Director of Sumatra and Wildlife, WWF-Indonesia said, "The video proves that this healthy Sumatran tiger can breed well in central Sumatra," Suhandri added, "It also shows the strong commitment of the Government of Indonesia and the support of partners communities and local governments and the international community to save tigers and their habitats, tiger population recovery is key for humans to live with the availability of natural resources "
