Karna, the son of the Sun God Surya and Kunti, was renowned for his extraordinary generosity and unwavering commitment to dharma (righteousness). Despite facing rejection and hardships throughout his life, Karna’s sense of honor and virtue defined him as a noble soul, earning him the title “Danveer” (the great donor).
The Context of the Incident
The Kurukshetra war was approaching, and the Pandavas, led by Arjuna, were preparing to face the Kauravas. Karna, the commander of the Kaurava army and Arjuna’s arch-rival, possessed divine gifts from his father Surya—the Kavach (armor) and Kundal (earrings). These celestial items made Karna invincible in battle, shielding him from all weapons.
Indra, the king of the gods and Arjuna’s father, grew anxious about Karna’s unmatched strength and sought to weaken him. Knowing Karna’s unwavering commitment to charity, Indra devised a plan. Disguised as a poor Brahmin, Indra approached Karna at a time when he was observing his daily ritual of offering alms to anyone who asked.

Indra, in the guise of the Brahmin, humbly asked Karna for his golden armor and earrings. Karna immediately recognized the man before him as no ordinary Brahmin—he suspected it was Indra.
