You may think that technical engineering skills are your most important, while they are important it is not your most important skill, it is your ability to communicate. Communication Techniques aren't something that is taught at university, you learn to write technical reports and may be present to engineers, however, in the workforce you need to communicate to a broad range of audiences with varied skill sets. as an engineer, your communication skills need to be able to break down technical knowledge to someone that has no engineering ability.
Communication is what we really produce, whether that be in meetings, in the drawings we produce or the reports we write, if you cannot communicate your engineering ability is pointless.
Also, communication is just about output, to effectively communicate you also need to be able to listen and understand the issues. As communication is a two what street, and if you are able to understand the issues you can more effectively pass your knowledge on, and make the projects better.
