ASEAN is a maritime region. And as we brave the current storms together, we are building resilience for the future.

At the 36th ASEAN Roundtable 2021, organised by the ASEAN Studies Centre (ASC) at the ISEAS - Yusof Ishak Institute today, I shared how ASEAN has banded together to promote economic recovery through initiatives like the ASEAN Comprehensive Recovery Framework and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).

But ASEAN must continue to press on to maximise the opportunities from global megatrends, including digitalisation, supply chain resilience and sustainability. We have a few frameworks in place that can help us do this, including the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement, the ASEAN Single Window and the Framework for Circular Economy for the ASEAN Economic Community.
