Just finished assembling this leg press from Syedee that I purchased from Walmart.com site for 1,049.00. I looked today and its now 990.99 with free delivery.
Best application:
Fitness type strength training. New to novice users. Senior lifters, sports rehab, condition training.
I was not expecting a lot and I have experienced the linear bearing type feature of the press having owned a Body Solid Smith machine in the past with the same type operation.
My hope was that this machine would handle 3 to 4 plates of 45 LBS each per side and it does this easily. I'm 64 so in no need of a commercial machine that can be loaded to the gills with weight.
What are my observations about this purchase.
If your expecting that for 990.00 that you stumbled upon a hidden deal where they are selling a Hoist or Hammer Strength type commercial build machine then you will not find that here. This is a home use machine built of gauge thickness metal suitable more for strength training but not overload training where you max out a machine.
That set for the most part the fit and finish of this piece is good. Everything feels tight and smooth in operation. I tested it with up to 3 plates on each side but could have easily added another couple with no less efficient operation. This level of Linear Bearings are louder than higher end commercial machines but smooth in operation with no drag or slide. As I stated I think there are a couple places that a reinforcement back plate might have added longevity to the equipment overall. Behind the crossmember where the foot plate and weight holder are mounted and on the backs of where the weight holders are attached to the frame. That is just my opinion enhance how its already put together but the design as is works and as long as you don't overload or abuse it. This will probably last a long time as is, with some periodic checking for tightness of bolts over the years. If you take your time building this equipment, it will be solid and smooth. Assemble it loosely till all flush and the alignment of parts are good then tighten nuts and bolts. Never over tighten pads. You just want those bolts snug. If you over tighten, you risk popping the threaded inserts right out of the wood mounting.
So though I said this is not commercial, it is still a good sized heavy piece of equipment when assembled.
Is it better than the higher priced units available? I'm not sure but the consideration and comparison here is this machine is nearly half the price of competing equipment that is even close to a fair comparison. It does everything I wanted it to so for this price and is better quality than I actually expected. Comparing this equipment to 3K and 4K leg presses is not fair for the price point and users need. Then again many users dont want or have space for paying movers to locate and set up those large heavy pieces. If you are a power lifter you surely need something more than this Syedee leg press but if your just working on your strength to run a 4.2 40 yard time or hike a mountain easier, pedal faster, carry yourself through the day with less effort. This might meet your needs.
