🔘 The plot is based on the Christmas Eve murder of Mr. Lee, a former millionaire who, for the first time in twenty years, had invited his five children to spend the holidays at his home.
On 24 December, he is found brutally murdered in his room, which is locked from the inside. Everyone, of course, hated this cynical old man: Alfred and his wife for the tyranny he exerted on their couple, David for the humiliations he heaped on his mother, George for the allowance - too parsimonious for his liking - he served him, Harry, the prodigal son, for the contempt in which he held him.
And there is the mysterious Mr Farr from South Africa. And young Pilar, the Spanish granddaughter who has coldly declared that if she had an enemy, she would not hesitate to cut his throat. Old Simeon should not have announced his intention to change his will in front of everyone, he should not have made that hateful scene to the assembled children, and perhaps he should not have flaunted his diamonds in front of Pilar...
The event leads detective Hercule Poirot to investigate the murder...

Il raconte une histoire pleine de suspense. Le personnage principal est le détective Hercule Poirot. L'intrigue repose sur le meurtre, la veille de Noël, de M. Lee, un ancien millionnaire qui, pour la première fois depuis vingt ans, avait invité ses cinq enfants à passer les fêtes chez lui.
Le 24 décembre, il est retrouvé sauvagement assassiné dans sa chambre, qui est fermée de l'intérieur. Tout le monde, bien sûr, détestait ce vieil homme cynique : Alfred et sa femme pour la tyrannie qu'il exerce sur leur couple, David pour les humiliations qu'il fait subir à sa mère, Georges pour l'allocation - trop parcimonieuse à son goût - qu'il lui sert, Harry, le fils prodigue, pour le mépris dans lequel il le tient.
Et puis il y a le mystérieux M. Farr, venu d'Afrique du Sud. Et la jeune Pilar, la petite-fille espagnole qui a froidement déclaré que si elle avait un ennemi, elle n'hésiterait pas à lui trancher la gorge. Le vieux Siméon n'aurait pas dû annoncer son intention de modifier son testament devant tout le monde, il n'aurait pas dû faire cette scène odieuse aux enfants réunis, et peut-être n'aurait-il pas dû exhiber ses diamants devant Pilar...
Cet événement conduit le détective Hercule Poirot à enquêter sur le meurtre.
