Leon (Jean Reno) is a lone professional hit man. One day, a young neighbor, Matilda (Natalie Portman), knocks on his door and asks him to take a break from killing in her house. It turns out that the neighbor's landlord is the eyes and ears of the police narcotics unit, and is being punished by a ruthless cop (Gary Oldman) for killing his entire family just for embezzling a small bag of drugs. Mathilda is saved from Lyon's stay and stays with him. Lyon teaches the girl how to use a gun, she teaches him French, and the two become close and hit it off.
