Squiers are known for being the "poor mans" Fender guitar. The good news is that for a "poor mans" guitar, this Squier Tele Affinity is a pretty damn good guitar.
Selling at a market retail average of $250, what you get for what you pay is pretty good. The body wood quality and finish does not feel cheap. The neck profile is a modern C and feels comfortable in your hands. If you were given this guitar to play while blindfolded, it would be pretty difficult for you to tell whether this guitar was made in Mexico, Japan or China.
However, despite the affordable price point, there are some obvious differences between this Squier Affinity Tele to an American Telecaster. For instance, the plastic on this guitar is low quality. This includes the plastic of the pickguard, the selector tip, and the output jack plastic. Luckily, these are very low cost replacements that shouldn't be a huge hit to your wallet.
The biggest weakness of this guitar by far are the stock tuners. Squier used very low quality and cheap tuners which makes this guitar go out of tune when playing for a decent while. While the tuning instability is not drastic, it is still enough for the player to hear a difference in pitch when playing the guitar for couple hours.
If you are planning to keep this guitar for a long time, I suggest upgrading the tuners to higher quality ones. And maybe even swapping out the pickups to "stronger" or "hotter" ones.
But for a $250 guitar, you can't go wrong with this Squier Tele Affinity Series. It's a very solid and durable guitar overall.
