In this episode, The Message translation, Proverbs 8:7b-11, “I can’t stand the taste of evil! You’ll only hear true and right words from my mouth; not one syllable will be twisted or skewed. You’ll recognize this as true - you with open minds; truth-ready minds will see it at once. Prefer my life-disciplines over chasing money, and God-knowledge over a lucrative career. For Wisdom is better than all the trappings of wealth; nothing you could wish for holds a candle to her.
Powerful words that speak to purpose and desire. Necessity is the mother of invention and most people start businesses to make a profit. Owning a business is not bad. Chasing after money versus discipline and desiring a lucrative career over using God-knowledge are contrary to the advice given in this scripture.
In the book of Deuteronomy, 8:18, the scripture reads, “Always remember that it is the Lord your God Who gives you power to become rich, and He does it to fulfill His promises to your ancestors.” TLB
