Since its independence on August 14, 1947, Pakistan has oscillated like a pendulum between periods of military governance and democratically elected governments because of which its political history has been very turbulent. It also struggled in evolving a stable political system mainly because of the diverse languages spoken in different regions of Pakistan.
The nation is believed to have more than 20 languages and 300 dialects. The official languages are Urdu and English but other languages in use include Punjabi, Sindhi, Pashtu, Baluchi and Seraiki.
Apart from this, the economic crises, wars with India and exposed north-western border have also been hurdles in Pakistan’s political evolvement.
Recently, Pakistan again faced a set-back after Imran Khan’s government failed to prove its majority in the house. He got replaced by Shahbaz Sharif who is a brother of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif. Now in addition of the political crisis, the country is facing an economic crisis as well. The new government is finding it difficult to govern the nation efficiently while the ousted PM Imran Khan is taking out rallies throughout the nation claiming the illegitimacy of the new government and demanding fresh elections.
But what really led to the decline of Khan’s government?
