Buncrana Parish Priest Francis Bradley on Christmas Day called Mothers, Fathers and Grandparents “Purveyors of Fear and Hatred" and more for standing up and safeguarding their community.
In October local people helped protect Buncrana town by stopping busloads of un-vetted males of military age (not Ukrainians, nor fleeing war) going in beside 3 schools and a busy walkway used by young schoolchildren.
Instead of giving the locals praise for safeguarding their community he called them using the following scathing words:
"Local self employed vigilantes, "with their voices and fists raised in hostility" "Prophets of doom and gloom” and “Purveyors of Fear and Hatred". Can you believe a Parish Priest would say such a thing?
Using words like “Purveyors of Fear and Hatred” is a very damaging, insulting and un-Godly thing to say, it is without merit and without any understanding of the situation and of the worry and stress the local community went through.
For a better understanding perhaps he should have consulted with concerned local Parents and Grandparents rather than just condemn them from his Alter.
Upon hearing that 66 un-vetted men of military age were headed for a building near schools, many local people suffered much fear and stress, there was no community engagement, no help from local politicians who were asked, but refused, and all the local politicians knew in advance about the situation but remained silent.
Is it right that faced with no help from anyone that the ordinary people of Buncrana, who had the courage to make a stand should now be called names and condemned by their community spiritual leader?
PP Francis Bradley then proceeded to use a now very common and weak argument about the Irish being welcomed abroad. This mind set needs to be put to bed right here and now, the Irish went abroad and built London, New York and many other cities around the world, they went to work hard, they did not go to a country and get warehoused for profit, get generous social welfare payments and be used as chattel for profiteering businessmen.
This argument about the Irish being welcomed abroad holds no water and is just a cheap sound bite, a pathetic attempt to shame the Irish, well it won’t work and it won’t ever work, there is no comparison between Irish Immigrants and what is going on now in the world, the Irish worked hard wherever they went, they were renowned for their endurance and reliability, they got nothing handed to them and they worked hard for all that they got, they got no handouts.
This priest used one of the busiest mass days of the year to condemn and defame a group of Grandparents, Mothers and Fathers who had the best interest of their community at heart. Why did he not mention any of this at previous mass day’s way back in mid-October after the incident took place?
This oration by a priest against a decent group of people on one of the holiest days of the year was way out of order and totally un-called for. Shame on him for the cheap jibes against his own people in the house of God on such a holy day.
