Under the leadership of Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Indian Railways has embarked on the development of the Vande Bharat sleeper transit, aimed at enhancing passenger comfort during overnight travel. The inaugural event saw the inauguration of the new sleeper car prototype at BEML, marking a significant milestone in India's rail transportation sector.

The project, which aims to surpass the standards set by Rajdhani Express trains, includes plans for 10 train sets. These sets will feature improved berths, sensor-based lighting, and enhanced night lighting, promising a more comfortable and convenient travel experience for passengers.

Scheduled to be ready for trial runs within the next six months, each Vande Bharat sleeper train will consist of 16 coaches, offering a total of 823 berths. Noteworthy features include an austenitic stainless steel carbody, crash-worthy design elements, best-in-class interiors with GFRP panels, and modern amenities such as automatic exterior passenger doors and sensor-based intercommunication doors.

With a maximum operational speed of 160 kmph during service and 180 kmph during testing, the Vande Bharat sleeper train sets a new standard in passenger transit, promising a seamless blend of safety, comfort, and efficiency.
