Here are some steps you can try to fix the black screen issue on an external display when using your Steam Deck:
Check Connections: Ensure all cables are securely connected. Sometimes, a loose connection can cause display issues.
Restart the Steam Deck: Press and hold the power button for three seconds to force a restart. If this doesn’t work, try holding the power button for ten seconds to enforce a hardware reset.
Enter BIOS Mode: Hold the power button for 20 seconds, then hold the volume up button and press the power button once. Release the volume up button when you hear the chime and navigate through the BIOS menu.
Sleep Mode Trick: With the Steam Deck connected to the dock, put the system in Sleep mode by tapping the power button. Once in Sleep mode, tap the button again to wake it up. Wait 10 seconds to see if the display receives a signal.
Battery Storage Mode: Hold the power button for 20 seconds, then hold the volume up button and the three-dot button for 10 seconds. Unplug the power supply while still holding the buttons and wait for the LED to blink three times. Plug the power supply back in and retest the issue.
Contact Support: If none of the above steps work, it might be best to contact Valve or Steam Deck Repairs for further assistance
