''Mambo Sun'' is a song written by Marc Bolan.
It was the opening track on T.Rexs' album ''Electric Warrior''.
Electric Warrior is the second studio album by T. Rex and their sixth since their 1968 debut as Tyrannosaurus Rex, released on 24 September 1971. The album marked a turning point in the band's style, moving away from the folk-oriented sound of the group's previous albums and pioneering a more flamboyant, pop-oriented glam rock style.

The album reached number one on the UK Albums Chart and became the best-selling album of 1971 in that country. Specifically, the single "Get It On" helped to boost the album's sales, reaching the top ten of the US Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. Retitled "Bang a Gong (Get It On)" by the US record company, it also became the band's only North American hit.
Electric Warrior has since received acclaim as a pivotal release in the glam rock movement.
It had a profound influence on later musicians of different genres.

Cover versions

In 1972 a German adaptation of the song was released by Robin West titled ''Nur Du''. (Ariola – 12 037 AT) [ Ссылка ]

The Bongos released their version in 1980 in their 12'' vinyl ''In The Congo''. (UK, Fetish Records – FET 005). They were the first American group to enter the Billboard charts with a T.Rex cover.

Eszter Balints' version is included in the Marc Bolan tribute compilation album ''Great Jewish Music: Marc Bolan'' which was released in 1998 in the US. (Tzadik – TZ 7126)

A hardcore version was released by Sunny Crew Featuring Mixo in 1990 in Italy. It was released as a single sided single (vinyl). (Not On Label – Sun Mix 001)

In 2012 the remastered and reissued version of ''Life Among The Ruins'' album by Virgin Steele included a version of the song. (Steamhammer – SPV 308442 2CD)

A version by Il Segno Del Comando is included in the tribute compilation ''A Tribute To The Madmen (Marc Bolan - David Bowie)''. the album was released in Italy in 2017. (Black Widow Records – BWRCD 200-2)

A version by Sean Lennon & Charlotte Kemp Muhl can be found in the tribute compilation ''AngelHeaded Hipster: The Songs Of Marc Bolan & T. Rex'' which was released in 2020. (BMG – 538605860)

The Pixies recorded a version of "Mambo Sun" for the b-side of their 12'' vinyl ''Hear Me Out''. The single was released in Oct 16, 2020 in the UK. (Infectious Music – INFECT584LP)
