The richest billionaire, Elon Musk is famous for owning up to seven companies including three top global corporations SpaceX, Tesla, and X.com.
But what if I told you he wasn't doing it all on his own?
I'm not trying to be a Musk hater here, but honestly, hiring a great asset to help execute a massive vision is one of the best things that an entrepreneur can do.
And for SpaceX, he had Gwynne Shotwell as his right hand.
Under her leadership, the pioneering company, reusable rocket and broadband internet satellite mega constellation, keeps hitting insane milestones.
Respect for Shotwell has run so deep at the company SpaceX—that some long-timers have a saying: They work for Gwynne, not Elon.

If you haven’t seen Gwynne Shotwell, then you haven’t been paying attention. Recently, she received the World Technology Award for Individual Achievement in Space and was inducted into the Women in Technology International Hall of Fame.
Gwynne Shotwell is the voice of reason at SpaceX. As President and COO (Chief Operations Officer), she manages the day-to-day operation of the company, she manages the fulfillment today of the direction the company is going tomorrow. She’s in charge of making sure that things like contracts actually get met, and that when a satellite is supposed to launch there is a functional rocket sitting under it with all the range support, tracking, and support ships standing by. This is the kind of work that takes a firm and practiced hand in any company, and she does a great job at it.
Gwynne Shotwell's reputation has spread widely in the commercial space industry. No company or space organization hasn't heard her name when it comes to SpaceX or Elon Musk.
What SpaceX's President Just Did Shocked the Whole Industry!
She has even gained the trust of almost all of them, most notably NASA Administrator Bill Nelson.
In an interview with NPR in May, the NASA director openly expressed his trust in Gwynne Shotwell.
“Elon Musk... one of the most important decisions he made, as a matter of fact, is he picked a president named Gwynne Shotwell,” Nelson said. “She runs SpaceX. She is excellent. And so I have no concerns.”
As COO, Shotwell has overseen operations at Starbase and the Starship program to some extent. Her daily responsibilities may primarily focus on SpaceX's Dragon, Falcon, and Starlink programs, but a COO of her caliber cannot ignore a program that potentially represents half (or more) of SpaceX's R&D spending.
