How to Spend a Rainy Day in Istanbul?

For the fishermen of Istanbul, perhaps the greatest gift is to spend hours on the Galata Bridge, fishing under the rain, undisturbed by anyone.
If you enjoy walking in the rain, Istanbul offers countless opportunities. Take a stroll along the Beşiktaş pier, wander through a park in the Üsküdar district, explore the bustling Kadıköy Market, or lose yourself in the charm of Istiklal Street and Taksim Square. However, my special recommendation is to visit Galata Bridge on a rainy day.

On Galata Bridge, fishermen gather under the rain, some professionals and others fishing for leisure. I started from Eminönü and observed the scene-men, women, and even children engrossed in their fishing. The rain was heavy, but they were fully immersed in their activity. Some were removing fish from their hooks, others were baiting their lines, and many were simply waiting patiently for a catch.

The fishermen were well-prepared, dressed in rain gear, ready to spend hours on the bridge. It made me think: the best gift for them would be to invite them to Galata Bridge on a rainy day and let them fish in peace all day long.

Galata Bridge is also perfect for a scenic walk. You can see Galata Tower, watch boats offering Bosphorus tours, observe the fishermen, and enjoy the food stalls in Eminönü selling fresh fish sandwiches. Beneath the bridge, a variety of restaurants offer delicious meals.

If you're looking for a location that combines breathtaking views and great food, Galata Bridge is an excellent choice. I spent a lot of time watching the fishermen-some even brought their children to teach them the art of fishing. By the end of my visit, both I and my camera were thoroughly soaked. Filming became challenging in the heavy rain, but I managed to record 20 minutes of video to share with you. I hope you enjoy it.
