Minister of Culture and the Arts, Dr. Nyan Gadsby-Dolly says the blessings of unity and harmony which exist in Trinidad and Tobago must never be taken for granted.
Dr. Gadsby-Dolly a featured speaker at the opening of Divali Nagar 2018 said the act of the lighting of a Deya is a ritual shared by many regardless of creed or race in Trinidad and Tobago. She said our nation is built on diversity and these differences form a divine tapestry which delights our creator. The Culture Minister said we must jealously guard these individual facets as any sign of weakness threatens the entire fabric.
Dr. Gadsby-Dolly commended the National Council for Indian Culture for their vision in establishing an institution where the philosophies and cultural legacy of East Indians can flourish. She lauded the national response to the recent devastating floods.
Minister Gadbsy-Dolly said this clearly indicates that regardless of religion, the message and ethos of Divali is alive and well in Trinidad and Tobago.
