Washington Gun Law President, William Kirk, discusses one of the important exceptions to Washington's self-defense laws, the "first aggressor standard." Under this legal concept, a person who instigates the fight or the initial person to provoke conflict, cannot later claim self-defense. The only exception under Washington law is if the initial aggressor withdraws from the conflict, in a manner and in a way that would make that known to everyone, and then is still met with unlawful force.
We discuss the importance of this standard and how it has been used or attempted to be used in both the Kyle Rittenhouse and Ahmaud Arbery trials. Arm yourself with knowledge today.
