Forestry and wood industry
Bosnia and Herzegovina is one of the most heavily forested countries in Europe, boasting a plethora of ecosystems and an abundance of flora and fauna. More than 63% of the country is covered in forests, wich provide a range of resources for various industries, from sustainable forestry and wood products to the furniture and construction industry.
These forests can provide nearly 7 million m³ of round-wood per year on a sustainable basis. Beech, oak, ash, pine and fir, as well as more specialized woods such as walnut, apple and cherry are exported as raw materials as well as half fabricated and finished products.
Over 60% of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s wood sector production is exported, though furniture exports are becoming more important. The largest markets for these producers are Western Europe, the USA and the Middle East.
