Portraits of queens and Amazons of the Great Steppe depicted on carpets - visitors can explore the unique art pieces by a young Kazakh artist in Astana at an exhibition held in one of the contemporary art centers. The exposition of Assel Sabyrzhankyzy features a total of 15 works, each drawing inspiration from Kazakhstan’s historical heritage.
“This is a truly unique technique. There are no artists like this throughout the CIS. While there might be one artist in the East working on something similar, we still use different techniques. Personally, I’ve found my own signature style,” shared Sabyrzhankyzy.
The exhibition also featured artworks by other contemporary Kazakh artists, including Almas Nurgozhayev’s unique monumental paintings and hyperrealistic installations by Shalkar Kabdesh.
“From Assel’s carpet techniques to large monumental works by Almas, and graceful metal mesh installations by Shalkar Kabdesh - all of this is a symbol of the very interesting and fascinating developments in Kazakhstan’s art scene today,” Leyla Mahat, Head of the Kulanshi Contemporary Art Center, said.
