More information about the video content bellow:
1. The British Virgin Islands were colonized by the Dutch in 1648. The islands were then annexed by the British in 1672. They were administered variously as part of the British Leeward Islands or with St. Kitts and Nevis, with an administrator representing the British Government on the islands. The islands gained separate colony status in 1960 and became autonomous in 1967.
2. The Virgin Islands are in the Caribbean, east of Puerto Rico. The islands belong to a group known as the Leeward Islands which are part of the Lesser Antilles island chain. Other islands in the group include Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Guadeloupe, Montserrat and St Kitts and Nevis. The archipelago of the Virgin Islands is divided into two territories, the British Virgin Islands, and the United States Virgin Islands.
3. Road Town, located on Tortola, is the capital of the British Virgin Islands. It is situated on the horseshoe-shaped Road Harbour in the centre of the island's south coast. The population is about 12.000 people.
4. The British Virgin Islands comprise around 60 tropical Caribbean islands, ranging in size from the largest, Tortola 20 km long and 5 km wide, to tiny uninhabited islets, altogether about 150 square kilometres in extent. Population 28.000. By GDP per capita they are on equal footing with the UK, at 43.400$.
5. The British Virgin Islands have a tropical rainforest climate, moderated by trade winds. Temperatures vary little throughout the year. Hurricanes occasionally hit the islands, with the hurricane season running from June to November. Hurricane Danny (2015) was the most recent until 7 September 2017 when Hurricane Irma caused extensive damage.
6. Tourism accounts for approximately 45% of national income. The islands are a popular destination for US citizens. In 2006 a total of 825,603 people visited the islands.
7. Financial services account for over half of the income of the territory. The majority of this revenue is generated by the licensing of offshore companies. In 2000 over 45% of the world's offshore companies were formed in the British Virgin Islands. In the April 2016 Panama Papers leak, the British Virgin Islands was the most commonly used tax haven by clients of Mossack Fonseca.
