Then vs Than - do you know the difference?
Welcome to episode 3 of our Intermediate Level English tip course! Even if you are Advanced or Beginner, you can still benefit from this episode!
Then and then are two words that sound very similar, but have different meanings. They are also commonly confused words, so it is important to know how to use them correctly.
Then is used to indicate time or sequence. It can be used as an adverb, adjective, or noun. For example:
* "I went to the store, and then I went to the park." (adverb)
* "That was then, this is now." (adjective)
* "The then-president was very popular." (noun)
Than is used to make comparisons. It can be used as a conjunction or a preposition. For example:
* "I am taller than you." (conjunction)
* "She is more beautiful than I am." (preposition)
Here are some tips to help you remember the difference between then and than:
1. Then is associated with time, while than is associated with comparison.
2. You can often replace than with as or compared to. For example, "I am taller than you" can also be written as "I am taller compared to you."
