A lot of people ask if they can drink non alcoholic beer as a substitute while they are attempting to quit drinking.
The answer is; yes but I don’t advise it!
Here’s why:
Obviously, alcohol free beer and wine are a whole heap better than the regular stuff. However, the reason I don’t advise you use it is there is a subliminal suggestion that you are missing out on something.
You are replacing the thing you want with a halfway house to bridge the gap, so to speak.
This causes us a problem because it means we are having to engage in some more mental civil war. We want a beer, but we are not allowed one – so we will make do with a substitute and hope it takes the edge off our cravings.
If you still have cravings then you still believe there is a benefit to drinking alcohol. As I have said many times over, there is not a single benefit to alcohol. Not one!
Plus most of them are overpriced and taste revolting.
Nonalcoholic wine is essentially fruit juice at four times the regular price.
Don’t even get me started on non-alcoholic spirits – you would enjoy licking the cat’s litter tray out more (trust me).
I occasionally have an alcohol free beer if I am at a party but only because I bored with soda and fancy a different taste. Never because I wish I could have a real bottle of beer.
I advise the members of my online stop drinking program to stay clear of them for the first few months until you are firmly into your sober life.
If after that you want to have the occasional one (for a change) then go nuts.
If you want any more advice and help to stop drinking – leave a comment below or drop me an email.
