Let’s take a listen to the all new Boss DM-101 Delay Machine. The DM-101 is an Analog Delay powered by 8 BBD Chips and controlled by a CPU that marries the classic tones you’d expect from an Analog Delay with the modern conveniences of digital pedals. Stereo outs, Midi I/O, Presets (4 Onboard/127 via Midi), Tap Subdivisions, and Trails
The DM-101 features 12 unique modes. Each of which takes advantage of the available BBD chips. Classic, Vintage, and Modern are your most recognizable analog tones. The classic mode features an extended range of up to 1200ms. Vintage is based on the DM-2, and Modern is a high fidelity delay with crisp bright delays.
From there, the power of the digital brain is on display. In Multi-Head mode, the cpu rearranges the order of the BBD chips to simulate the playback heads on a tape echo. The Variation know lets you scroll through 10 head combinations.
Non-Linear, Ambience, and Reflect provide short delays that provide almost reverb like textures. The remaining modes are designed to excel in stereo. Wide features offset left/right delay times for a big stereo field, and my personal favorite, Doubling+Delay features a short slapback with a longer delay.
The modulation section features controls for LFO Depth and Rate, and in some modes the Variation knob will select the LFO Envelope. In others, the variation knob will select the intervals between delay times, etc.
This is a deep pedal, and there is a ton to explore. We’ll be taking more looks at it soon.
Thank you Boss and Roland Canada for sending this out.
