Today I was working remotely since 7 in the morning so add lunch time when out for a short walk on the historic square of Rossio across my hostel for a short break and some photos. Did u know that Lisbon suffered a devastated massive earthquake in 1755 which flatten most of the city center followed by a series of aftershocks and tsunamis?
After I finished work I walked down to the pier and taken the ferry across the river Toje which is 10mim ride to Casilhas fish village and from there I walked for 20min up the hill to reach the monument of the Cristo Rei. This 28m statue in its 82m base wa a inaugurated in 1959 overlooking Lisbon in thanks for Portugal's escape from involvement in WW2. Inspired by the famous Rio de Janeiro statue.
To get up to the statue the entrance is 6€ but the view is a pay off especially on a good weather day! You get panoramic views of the river Toje, the 24th April bridge and Lisbon across the river.
From the statue the Cristo Rei I walked down the hill through the old town of ALmada which offers attractive views off Lisbon and the river . I had a small break right on time to catch a gorgeous sunset over the 24th of April bridge and then walked down to the ferry terminal and get myself back to Lisbon where I end my day for today around 20:00. 😉
